Would this be weird to do at a Christmas party?

I'm going to a youth group Christmas party. The rules say that we have to bring a gift under $5, and a food dish/drink. I'm really into crocheting, and I'm pretty good at making scarfs. Would it be weird to crochet a scarf, for the gift? If it is, I can always buy something..so it doesn't really matter.
