Why won't China give Dalai Lama and Tibet a chance?

The question should be re-phrased: why won't the world give China a chance. At the moment China is being selectively criticised on a number of issues. It appears that as the Olympics are approaching the momentum againt China is increasing. This criticism is at best hypocritical and egregious. The agenda seems to be China's economic performance is affecting competitors who are galvanizing support by focusing on China and steering public opinion against China on any issue they feel will harm China. They are recruiting popular figures like film producers or actors, and choosing populist topics to marshall the emotions of the public who are typically swayed by these emotionally charged topics. The question we should be asking is why don't these popular figures worry about human rights in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Cameroon, and so many other despotic states?? Why China?? What about gay rights in Egypt?? Or women's rights in Saudi Arabia?? The criteria being employed against China are consonant with Western hegemonic interests. How can people be so naive!!
